About Tom Grogan
Welcome to my little piece of the internet where I can share my enthusiasm and knowledge about music and all things guitars. I have been playing music for over 50 years. I enjoy many different kinds and styles of music.
The Beginning of My Musical Journey
My love for music began at a young age. I grew up in the 60″s and 70’s when Rock N Roll came into being. As a kid in elementary school my parents brought me my first guitar. It was a Kay archtop guitar. I thought it was awesome. In those days the guitar was prominate in almost every band and group in that era. From strumming my first chord to playing my first song, I was hooked.
My Musical Influences
My playing style has been heavily influenced by legends like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan Each of these artists has shaped my approach to the guitar in unique ways. Their music and playing styles have always been innovative and creative. With thier songs you can dance and party all day long. I still remember them and love to listen to radio stations that feature their music. When I would take my family on vacation or a road trip I would find the radio station playing 60’s and 70’s rock n roll and turn the volume up.

Musical Journey and Achievements
My Journey and Milestones
In the late 60’s I became aware of a group of classical guitarist that blew my mind with what they could play as a solo guitar player. Amoung the best of them were Julian Bream and Andre Srgovia. When they played solo it sounded like three players at once. Andre Segovia had been on the concert tours for many years and was considered the worlds greatest guitarist at that time. After listening to him play fugues by J.S. Bach and classical pieces by Fernando Sor I was hooked.
I studied classical guitar performance in college and earned my degree in 1975 from Mercer University in Atlanta. I have continued to study with many different professors and attended masterclasses. I have always studied music in some form. I am prone to geek out on music theory or the compositional techniques of classical composers. I love other instruments such as bass guitar, piano, wind instruments, and percussion
Current Projects and Future Ambitions
Currently, I’m working on recording some of the lessor known works for classical guitar. While there are many awsome pieces of the guitar repertoire that everyone plays there are some very worthy pieces in all skill levels that need some exposure. My goal is to continue pushing the boundaries of my musical abilities and share my passion for guitar lessons and expertise with a wider audience. Beyond the Guitar
Is it really all about Guitars?
When I’m not giving guitar lessons or sharing my expertise, you can find me chillin’ at house enjoying a glass of southern sweet tea. I enjoy hiking the nearest trails or taking a day trip to the mountains. When I can spend time in the outdoors in Gods’s creation with the family he has blessed me with I am always grateful for what God has given me.
